About the Task Force

Preserving the legacy of Eleanor Roosevelt and advancing awareness of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.

Our Mission

The Task Force Eleanor Roosevelt works to honor the enduring contributions of Eleanor Roosevelt as the driving force behind the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. Through coordination, outreach, and educational initiatives, the Task Force brings together individuals and organizations committed to the principles of dignity and justice for all.

Central to its work is the commemoration of key milestones in human rights history — including the 60th anniversary of the UDHR in 2008 — and the promotion of resources that make the Declaration accessible to students, educators, and the global public.

The Task Force draws its inspiration from Eleanor Roosevelt's unwavering belief that human rights begin in small places close to home. Her vision transformed a global declaration into a living document that speaks to the dignity of every individual, whether in a classroom, a factory, a farm, or an office. By honoring her leadership during the drafting and passage of the Universal Declaration, the Task Force ensures that her principles remain a driving force for justice. Through coordinated efforts, it connects people across neighborhoods and nations, reminding us that the work of securing equal rights is never finished and requires constant vigilance from each generation.

Education stands at the heart of the Task Force's mission, making the Universal Declaration accessible to students, teachers, and youth around the world. The Declaration's thirty articles are not abstract ideals but practical instruments for protecting human dignity in everyday life. By developing resources and outreach programs, the Task Force empowers young people to understand their rights and responsibilities as global citizens. This educational work honors the legacy of Eleanor Roosevelt, who believed that informed individuals are the strongest defenders of freedom. Each new generation must learn that human rights are not gifts to be received but principles to be upheld and advanced.

Commemorative events and ceremonies serve as powerful reminders of the ongoing journey toward universal human rights. The Task Force coordinates gatherings that mark significant milestones, bringing together community leaders, educators, and advocates who share a commitment to dignity and justice. These occasions honor not only the authors of the Declaration but also the countless individuals whose lives have been touched by its principles. From local memorials to international observances, each event reinforces the truth that human rights belong to every person, everywhere. The Task Force ensures that these moments of reflection inspire renewed dedication to the work ahead.
